Introducing Becky

Becky was diagnosed after she started coughing in January 2020.

”It started just like a regular cold and eventually turned into violent coughing episodes which would cause me to be sick.”

After four lots of antibiotics, plus other medications for acid reflux and allergies and after being misdiagnosed with pneumonia, Becky was finally diagnosed in August 2020 after a CT scan and biopsy.

“Cancer is like a roller-coaster - ups and downs. It makes you appreciate all the little things. It makes everything heightened and makes you realise what's important in life and how important your health is.”

It’s been the hardest journey of Becky’s life, and she says it will continue to be so. “Everyday it's in the back of my head. I try to live as normally as possible and create happy memories while I can.”

Cancer can have an unexpected impact as Becky explains; “It has made me try things and do things I never thought I would, like my own DIY for instance. It’s made me want to do and try everything right now, because I don't have time on my side anymore.”

Becky’s advice to anyone newly diagnosed would be; “Be kind to yourself. Take a day at a time and cry when you need to. But also remember that you are alive right now, so do anything that you've wanted to do. Go anywhere you want to go, and do it now! Make the most out of living right now.”
