An Update from Becky 

Becky was diagnosed after she started coughing in January 2020, and originally told ALK+ International her story in April 2022.  You can find it here .

"Since my diagnosis in August 2020, my life has undergone a remarkable transformation. I now appreciate the little things much more, and I have grown immensely as a person.

My treatment journey has been nothing short of incredible, including 3 TKI (featuring a phase 1 cancer trial), SABR radiotherapy to my right lung, a left Adrenalectomy, right adrenal ablation, liver ablation, palliative radiotherapy to my neck and pelvis, and I’ve just begun chemotherapy (Carboplatin and Pemetrexed).

I navigate the scans with resilience—celebrating my victories while managing the accompanying anxiety and adapting to new treatment paths. Although I have faced challenges such as pancreatitis, lung infections, and five broken ribs from SABR radiotherapy, I have emerged stronger. I even dealt with broken heart syndrome, which led to a pulmonary embolism post-adrenal ablation, resulting in doctors placing me in an induced coma.

Yet, I refuse to let these challenges define me. I embrace life by seeking out new experiences and visiting places I never imagined going, like taking my daughter to Disneyland in Paris.

I treasure my "good" days and consistently look forward to future plans, which fuels my motivation.

My primary focus is on what truly matters: my family and friends.

I’ve faced many obstacles, but I remain committed to being present for my daughter as she grows up and creating as many joyful memories as possible.

Thanks to groundbreaking advancements in medicine, I am here today. Participating in a phase 1 cancer trial has been an extraordinary opportunity. It has not only given me precious extra time but has also contributed to paving the way for new treatment options for ALK-positive patients.

Research and funding are vital for extending our lives, and I am proud to be a part of this journey!”
